1. Osun-Osogbo is one of the sacred forests of the Yoruba people and is located near Osogbo in southwestern Nigeria. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The forest is full of shrines and sanctuaries, with special emphasis on Osun, the Yoruba goddess of fertility. The artefacts/structures in these photos are not always easy for an outsider to interpret. The one above is a shrine to Osun. All 5 photos here were taken in 1978.
